Main Location

Discover rolling hills with singing palms, majestic old hardwoods, and succulent fruit trees. There are rambling rivers and spring-fed streams flowing throughout. This lush growth assures the presence of abundant wildlife.

Picture yourself lounging in a hammock while howler monkeys and a rainbow of birds feasts in the tree tops above. Roam jungle trails, explore rivers.

The Longest, most Captivating River in Panama

Rio Chucunaque, winds its way through this area. This river is surrounded by magnificent ancient trees and lush jungle alive with birds, monkeys, iguanas, boar, and deer, to name only a few. If you are lucky, you may even spot a wild cat or a miniature panther.

The exotic sounds of the jungle surround you as you are guided down a river in a kayak or canoe.

The Reforestation Area

The Reforestation area consists of reforested plantations of Teak, divided into 1-hectare parcels with at least 10,000 square meters each. All land is registered with the National Public Registry.

Topography and Vegetation

The majority of the land has a gradient of less than 10% suitable for reforestation with Teak, and the rest of the land consists of primary forest, secondary forest, and lagoons.

The primary forest will be left alone, and the secondary forest will be managed with sustainable methods; enrichment plantings with fast-growing secondary species that have good qualities as timber.

There are many suitable species, some of which reach harvest size in as few as twenty years, although others take considerably longer. Enrichment planting reduces but does not destroy, the diversity of the forest, but this requires careful maintenance.

10-year-old Teak plantations are located close to the Teak project and they have presented excellent growth rates.

Before Buying the Land

it will have been harvested of all valuable tropical hardwoods by loggers who were looking to make quick money.

As soon as the loggers left, slash-and-burn farmers moved into the previously forested area, opened up by the logging roads. The same plot may be replanted two or three times, but diminishing yields finally lead to its abandonment and a new plot is cleared. This method of farming is essentially the same throughout the wet tropics.

In this way, the primary forest was transformed to agricultural land and secondary forest.
